Information for the Chequamegon 100

The Pre-Race meeting & pasta feed will be taking place at Lakewoods Resort, on Country Highway M, outside of Cable, starting at 6pm on Friday evening.  You will be able to pick up your race packet, get a good meal, and hear any last minute details about the event.  It is highly recommended that you attend.

Look for the Wolftooth Components tent to get your number plate on race morning if you were not able to attend the Friday night meeting. It will be available from 6:00am to 7:50am.

You will receive a Ziploc bag with your number plate and other items, and it is your drop bag for 100 mile riders.  Due to people bringing abnormally large items, your items for the drop point must fit in this bag.  On race morning, you will be directed to put them in the back of a truck for transport to the 60 mile point.  There are no drop bags for the 62 mile race.

The 100 mile race will start at 7am, on Rock Lake Road just across from Lakewoods. The 62 mile will start at 8am, on Rock Lake Road just across from Lakewoods

The course will be fully marked with tape and arrows.  The trails are open to the public, and roads are still open and in use by cars.  Because of this, not every intersection is taped, but all are marked clearly with directions.  The GPX files are also available for download.

Chequamegon 100 – 62 mile course

These are Public Dropbox links.  Because they are direct files, you will need to Right Click -> Save As to save the file to your computer, and then upload it to your device.  If you just click the link you will get a webpage with jibberish.

There is active logging on Hatchery Creek, and due to that, there may be re-routes in that area.  On any trails south of Mosquito Brook Road, you will need to know that route markers and signs are CORRECT, and your cue sheets and/or GPS may be wrong.  This is because we are trying to use as much trail as possible, but we may not know how much we can use until Friday.

There is water available at Hatchery Creek checkpoint on the 100 mile course.  It is the only tested, reliable water source.  There is no reliable water source on the 62 mile course.  There are untested water sources possible at Namekagon Town Hall, Telemark resort, and Highway 00 crossing, but they are not guaranteed, and use at your own risk

We have adopted an Android-based timing system this year.  When you finish, check in at the Wolftooth Components tent to have your time recorded.  Results will be posted online via Webscorer.com very soon after the race is complete.

Please join us at the Rivers Eatery for pizza and beer.  Fastest racer hugs and some swag will be presented at 7pm.  Then sit around the campfire with us, have another beer, and be glad that you enjoyed a full day of Type 2 fun.

The 2015 Chequamegon 100, and our promise of 100% of the registration fees going to CAMBA is made possible by

2015 Roster

After keeping you on pins and needles longer than expected, here is the 2015 roster for the Metric and 100-miler events!  Please be sure your information is correct (including race) and notify me at odia (at) thegreentunnel.com of any errors I have made.  If you’ve decided to pay with your credit card, please be aware that your invoice should arrive in the next couple of days.

As always, we’re thankful so many of you are willing to sign-on for our mission of “pedaling good will” as we continue to help CAMBA with their desire to create the best network of singletrack in the midwest (if not the nation).  That said, we’re also disappointed we weren’t able to choose all of the entries sent in – we hope to see your smiling faces at our other Advocate Cycling Productions events.

Announcing the 2015 Chequamegon 100!

The date of the Chequamegon 100 for 2015 will be June 20th. At 7am, riders will take off for a 100 mile journey, and at 8am, the 62 mile riders will start.

There have been a lot of changes this year, as we have grown, and decided to turn the Chequamegon 100 from a hobby into a legitimate business. We have always believed in running the Chequamegon 100 as a not-for-profit, and so when we decided to incorporate, we spent considerable time exploring the various business structures available. Nothing seemed to fit, until we attended a talk at a law group about various business methods, including a new one for Minnesota called Benefit Corporations. A new law just in effect on January 2nd, it allows businesses to file as a Corporation, but have a mission similar to a non-profit. That mission is then registered with the state, and the corporations are required to file yearly with a report about the actions they took to accomplish this mission. We chose to incorporate as a Benefit Corporation, alongside other great companies such as Finnegan’s Beer, Peace Coffee, Sunrise Banks, and others on the first day Minnesota would allow us to. This gives us structure to operate more efficiently, but still upholds our mission of giving 100% to the trails.

We are incorporated at Advocate Cycling Productions, SBC, and with this we intend to grow the idea of the Chequamegon 100 to other areas. For 2015 we have also acquired the Minnesota Rusty Ride on the Cuyuna trails, and we will be running the first ever Gitchee Gumee Traverse on the urban singletrack of Duluth, MN. We have also formed www.thegreentunnel.com as a central resource for our events, as well as cycling advocacy and trail issues for the upper midwest. Look for more information on that in the future.

The Chequamegon 100 will continue on as always, the new structure just allows us to be better planned for future growth of other events, and hopefully spreading our idea that events can be put on for the good of the trails they are on.

Now, onto the details!

  • Registration is live and open! We are moving to a new lottery system this year to give all people a fair chance of making the 250 person roster. Click the link above to download the form. Registrations must be in by February 14th.
  • The Angry Catfish Bicycle Shop has stepped up and is our presenting sponsor for all Advocate Cycling Productions events in 2015. Wolftooth Components is the title sponsor of the Chequamegon 100, and Twin Six and Angry Minnow Brewery are rounding out our list of sponsors that help us raise our operational costs so that we can always donate the full entry fee to the trails.
  • The course layout will be very similar to the previous two years, starting at Lakewoods, and ending at the River’s Eatery in Cable. As always, Mick at River’s Eatery is gracious enough to let us throw a party at his place after the event.
  • We are always looking for volunteers interested in helping us set up and tear down the course. Interested in riding a bit of course and helping us out?
  • We recommend the lodging at Lakewoods Resort. They have a block of rooms for us, and are always extremely accommodating. Plus, you are right there and ready for the start!
  • The Chequamegon 100 will now be timed by Webscorer. This system allows finish times and DNFs to be automatically uploaded to the web, for faster and more accurate results.
  • Many more details will come as we get closer to the event.

Questions? Let us know in the comments, or send an email to odia (at) thegreentunnel.com.

See you on the trails!
